Karen Mestek, PT, DPT
Karen Mestek completed her Bachelor of Science in Health Science and Clinical Exercise Physiology at Grand Valley State University, and went on to receive her Doctorate in Physical Therapy at the University of Michigan-Flint in 2014. Karen started her career in orthopedic physical therapy and developed an interest in specializing in pelvic floor physical therapy through working with pregnant women with pelvic girdle and back pain. Karen is a certified pregnancy and postpartum corrective exercise specialist, and as a runner herself, particularly enjoys guiding and educating postpartum women in safely returning to running. Karen's passion for pelvic floor physical therapy has further developed through her advanced training with the Herman and Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute. She has also undergone training in Functional Manual Therapy with the Institute of Physical Art as well as certification in Functional Dry Needling through Kinetacore. Karen thrives on continuing her education and integrates many schools of thought to understand the root of dysfunction, incorporating a variety of manual therapy techniques along with movement re-education and patient education for a holistic approach towards recovery and healing. As an active member of the Academy of Pelvic Health Physical Therapy and American Physical Therapy Association, Karen is passionate about pelvic health and regularly advocates for increased awareness and education of pelvic health conditions across all genders. Karen’s clinical interests include perinatal musculoskeletal disorders, prenatal and postnatal rehabilitation, pelvic organ prolapse, bowel and bladder dysfunction, incontinence, diastasis recti, and pelvic pain.
